My History & Mission
I am admittedly, a dyed-in-the wool Pacific Northwesterner. I grew up in the small, ski-resort town of Ketchum, Idaho. Between school, music, hockey, skiing, fly-fishing with my dad, and working at our family owned hardware/drugstore, it`s fair to say I was a pretty busy boy. My experiences growing up instilled in me a deep respect for the environment and a strong work ethic, but also the importance of enjoying life and creating a work-life balance, so that one can succeed in both.
It is my mission to provide clients with forthright service and representation when taking the big step of buying or selling a home. I am committed to fostering relationships, educating, and informing my clients, to ensure that they end up exactly where they`re supposed to be. I consider myself an adviser, consultant, expert, and companion on the real estate journey, not a salesperson.
Education
I graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA, in 1991. Whitman is among the West`s premier liberal arts colleges, and though my studies there cut a wide swath across many disciplines, I majored in history, and earned a secondary degree in music.
My third year of college was spent entirely in Paris, at the Institute of European Studies and the Sorbonne. This was a life-enriching experience, where my studies focused primarily on French language, history, art, and the socioeconomics of the (then) evolving European Union.
After graduating from Whitman with a Bachelor of Arts degree, I pursued ongoing education in creative writing while living and working in Boise, Idaho, at Boise State University in the early 1990`s.
Relevant Employment Experience prior to Real Estate
Prior to Real Estate, my resume is a reflection of two things I enjoy very much: food, and travel. I have held just about every conceivable job one can have in a restaurant over the years, from the dishwasher (at 15) to the General Manager (thirty-something), and everything in between. Several years in a fine-dining environment parlayed into a keen awareness of being able to anticipate clients` needs (as well as their trepidations), a skill which has served me well in Real Estate.
For several summers between 1995 and 2000, I had the opportunity to do both of my favorite things at once, while serving as the chef, and first mate of a private yacht. Although preparing meals was my primary duty, I was also responsible for day to day operations on board, provisioning, and taking care of our guests` needs while aboard. We traveled extensively through British Columbia and Alaska.
Another important experience in my professional development, was moving to Costa Rica in 1996 and starting a business from the ground up. A business partner and I went to Costa Rica intent on developing a gourmet coffee roasting & exporting business, and simultaneously opening a Starbucks style retail outlet in downtown San Jose. After successfully opening the store, I felt my work was done and it was time to move on to my next endeavor (not to mention I missed the great Pacific Northwest)! I lived and worked in Costa Rica for one year, and had an invaluable, hands-on experience starting a business.
My Career in Real Estate
In 2002 I developed an interest in real estate after buying my first home, but it wasn’t until selling that one and buying up in 2004, that I really “caught the bug.” My first three years in the business (2005-2008) were in a traditional, large-scale downtown office with approximately 100 agents. This was a perfect environment to learn the business hands-on. Surrounded by agents with decades of experience, I was able to learn, observe, ask, and absorb. In my first three years in a traditional brokerage, I closed over thirty transactions and sold over twelve million dollars.
In 2008 I moved to Coldwell Banker Danforth. Not only is Coldwell Banker internationally recognized as a real estate leader, but more importantly, the business model at Danforth is geared to today’s marketplace, and the way technology is taking real estate out of the brick and mortar office with fax and copy machines, and straight into the field. This is where the future of real estate lies in my opinion, and I want to remain on the cutting edge. Over fifty transactions totaling over twenty million dollars later, I’m excited to see where the road leads!
